Meet Ratha Chan, Country Director for Cambodia

We are delighted to welcome Ratha Chan as Country Director of the Cambodia Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture (CPSA). Get to know Ratha in this Q&A, learn about his priorities for CPSA and his vision for agriculture in Cambodia.

1. Welcome to the Grow Asia network, Ratha. What excites you most about this role and joining CPSA?

I’m very excited to join the CPSA and Grow Asia team. In this role as CPSA Director I can help strengthen the partnership’s goal to support smallholder famers and agribusinesses in Cambodia to grow at scale and in a sustainable way.

Through effective value chain facilitation and honest brokering of key actors, the multi-stakeholder model allows us to maximize everyone’s input and we can enhance agriculture in the ASEAN region.

2. What are your priorities for the first 100 days as CPSA Director?

Strengthening existing relationships with stakeholders involved in CPSA’s five Working Groups – Coconut, Fruits & Vegetables, Pepper, Cashew and Finding Niche Premium Markets.

I will also facilitate the recruitment and engagement of new partners. To make a positive impact on the lives of millions of smallholder farmers, we need to expand, grow our reach and scale up the impact of our work.

3. What changes would you like to see in Cambodia’s agriculture sector in five years’ time?

In short, more efficiency and safety in agricultural production, better access to premium markets, as well as affordable financing for agricultural value chain actors.

This requires concrete work and commitment from all of us, including agribusinesses, government agencies, civil society organizations, farmer groups and financial institutions.

This is why CPSA and Grow Asia’s work is so important, and why I am very proud to join the network. I am looking forward to meeting more partners and stakeholders over the coming months.
